So! you are here! Congratulations on your first step towards your Financial Freedom!
First of all, before starting any investments there are few things we should be taking care of, okay? give some thoughts in to it ; few of them are listed below.
- Create an Contingency fund to serve us in any of our difficult emergency situations. Usually the amount varies from Monthly expenses of last 6 months to 1 year; based on the kind of profession we are in. To start with look for a less expensive Liquid Fund or Money Market Fund.
- Clear all our debts/loans as soon as possible. So that we don’t have to draw money from investments.
- Have an insurance policy. Life/Health insurance will help us in difficult times. So that we don’t have to draw money from investments.
- Having one house is good; but more than one house isn’t an investment; it’s a liability unless we draw a significant amount of rent to cover all the maintenance expenses and left with some handsome money, that beats the Stock Market Index.
Once we have an emergency fund, becomes debt free and holds an insurance; we shall start thinking about investing in high risk assets. Look for a Balanced Fund to start with. Also find a Dynamic Bond fund were the AMC’s can invest your money into various types of Bonds
Once we understand how our money is growing in Liquid, Dynamic Bond and Balanced Funds; we shall start investing in high risk assets such as Multi Cap Funds and Stocks.
When investing in stocks its always better to keep an eye on the quarterly results (Corporate Information > Equities > Result calendar) to make better investment decisions.
Slow and steady wins the race! First rule of compounding is that Never interrupt it unnecessarily -charlie munger
